Adventure Activites

We have an endless list of activities to choose from -

We can provide your company with challenging adventurous activities such as abseiling, canoeing, mountain biking and rock climbing, or more sedate but fun activities such as initiative activities, team development games and leadership scenarios.  Adventure Solutions offers extraordinary team development challenges that require people to explore creative solutions to practice and improve working as a team.  In this world of high tech communications, Adventure Solutions can maximize face-to-face interaction and get your team to work together more effectively.  Activities facilitate fast, efficient and entertaining ways to accomplish this goal.

ABSEILING
Abseiling, a team activity, relies on the support and encouragement of the whole group, as each individual abseils down the cliff face.  The session commences with a talk from our qualified instructor on safety guidelines and technique, followed by a group discussion on individual differences, to examine how each person's comfort zone varies.  Our safety procedures insist that all participants wear a helmet while abseiling, and have a belay line back up that the instructor controls (safety rope).  The ultimate decision to abseil always rests the individual (challenge by choice).

CANOEING
Canoeing is an activity that some could regard as not particularly challenging.  The opposite is quite true.  With two people in a canoe the emphasis is on teamwork, communication and quick decision making.  Our canoe activity teaches basic strokes, handling, and safety, and is conducted on dams, lakes and placid river systems.  Personal floatation devices (PFD) are worn at all times.  Once paddling and manoeuvring skills have been mastered, the group will be encouraged to extend their skills in a game of canoe volleyball or storm the galleon.

SURFING
Surfing has become a very popular water activity that people of all ages can enjoy - some participants have no experience in the surf and some have never been to the beach before.  Those who already have surfing experience, will be shown how to build on their skill level to gain even more enjoyment!  The activity includes instruction in paddling, wave catching, various prone to feet methods, surfboard design and surf safety.  Your instructor will talk through the lesson, encouraging you to ask questions and constantly remind you what it's all about, having fun!  It is expected that even beginners will come away with the memory of that ‘first wave’ which will last forever.  Surfing is a great ‘shared experience’ for team bonding and photo opportunity.

BODY BOARDING
Body boarding is an activity that anyone can try irrespective of age or ability level and is ideal for those first timers who would like to experience the thrills of catching and riding waves! With this ‘no experience necessary’ lesson, all participants have a fantastic time in the waves.  The instructor covers all the basics of using a body board as well as how to manoeuvre the board through the waves, after which participants get to practice on the boards provided.  Once participants are confident with the basics, the instructor teaches simple tricks and more advanced skills that can be picked up very quickly and put into practice.

(ECO WALK)  THE WALLUM HEATH AND RAINFOREST WALK
The Environmental Walk is designed to allow participants to walk with the safety of a guide and to develop a wider appreciation of the rigid beauty that lies in the Australian Bush.  The walk covers a 3km area which supports a diverse array of flora a fauna.  Significant vegetation that was used for bush foods and medicinal purposes can be found as well as those used to build a shelter, make tools and other useful functions.  Along the walk, the participants may be privileged to see some of the native animals ranging from Eastern Grey kangaroos, goanna’s and other reptiles or some of the 120 native bird species.

MOUNTAIN BIKING
Most people know how to ride a bike but can still learn from a mountain biking experience. Mountain biking is a fun and challenging way to explore “off the beaten track” areas. Participants learn about the safety aspects of riding in a bush setting while experiencing the excitement of cycling itself.  Terrain varies from gentle slopes to rugged inclines and steep descents.  The pace of this activity as with all our outdoor activities will vary to meet the challenges of the group.  Environmental issues are discussed on route and areas of natural significance are examined.

Our bikes come in a range of sizes to suit all age group, but please let us know if anyone is less than 4’10”.  We need to know about any medical conditions and ensure asthmatics have their Ventolin with them.  All riders need to wear comfortable clothing and enclosed shoes.

FLYING FOX
The Flying Fox is a Challenge by Choice activity that comes in different challenge levels.  First, the participant must climb the pole (this is a challenge in itself).  An instructor will assist to attach to the Flying Fox with the final challenge for the participant being the departure from the platform.  This is a great team activity as each participant will have the opportunity to take on different roles during the activity.

GIANT SWING
Participants will be able to test and push their individual comfort zones while on this activity.  The group has to manage the time and the amount of energy required to power the activity, challenge by choice is a big concept for this activity.  Participants are pulled to the top of a pole, when they are ready they let go to experience a 20 metre free fall.

HIGH ROPES
High level ropes courses are the next step up and offer opportunities to explore personal limits, goal setting and decision making. They allow participants to reach for new heights and test courage while also building self-esteem.  As with the low and medium ropes courses, group and individual safety is paramount and will be covered along with technique by the instructor. All participants are outfitted with the necessary safety equipment.  The course is a physical and mental challenge for those individuals and teams wanting to find that special something that gives them the edge.

INITIATIVES
Initiative activities, though similar to team challenge, are in fact very different.  Whilst team development activities focus on team function, initiatives focus on lateral thinking.  Each group is given problems to solve within certain parameters.  The activities, though challenging both physically and mentally, are the ultimate source of personal satisfaction and achievement once completed.  Participants are encouraged to “think outside the square”, using communication and decision making skills, in these fun, problem solving activities.

LEADERSHIP
In an ever increasingly competitive world, every team needs a confident, focused leader.  Whether it’s leading a company, sports team or a family unit, at some point in our lives we will all need the necessary skills to take charge.  Through many different activities and scenarios we identify what makes a great leader.  Two-way communication and confident decision-making are essential, as well as identifying and utilising skills that are within a team.

LOW ROPES
Low ropes courses are to some extent physical, and rely on each participant helping each other through encouragement, teamwork and idea sharing.  The course is first demonstrated to the group by the instructor and covers rules for conduct and safety.  Fun and problem solving are emphasised in this activity in a safe and supportive environment.

MEDIUM ROPES
The medium ropes course is similar to low ropes but is situated 6 metres off the ground.  Relying on peer support and encouragement, each participant is safely secured in a harness attached to a safety line.  The group is given instruction in belaying (safety rope) skills and safety precautions.  At the end of the course, each participant descends via the flying fox, while being encouraged by the group.

ARCHERY
Although Archery is easy to learn and does not require a lot of skill; it is an individual challenge that can be turned into a team challenge by adding a competitive edge.  Participants receive coaching from our qualified instructors on stance and technique, and how to use the re-curve bows to shoot at target boards.

ORIENTEERING
Orienteering combines navigational skills with team work and personal challenge.  Participants are taught how to use a compass to find bearings and to read a map.  Each person must rely on individual and team skills in an endeavour to navigate their way along a given course. The participants are then given a scenario and several clues using bearings such as “200 degrees, ten metres”.  Bearings will lead participants to a series of items that they must assemble to complete the scenario and solve the problem.

OUTDOOR ROCK CLIMBING
Perhaps the most challenging of all adventure endeavours, outdoor rock climbing involves the ultimate in team effort and is one of the most rewarding and exhilarating activities.  Before participants attempt any rock climbing, each group is given thorough instruction in climbing techniques, belaying skills and safety precautions.  Participants are outfitted with the necessary safety equipment and taught how to use their hands and feet to efficiently climb rock faces.  Participation in outdoor rock climbing is a challenging and confidence-building experience and encourages a remarkable sense of accomplishment!

LEAP OF FAITH
Participants climb to the top of a seven metre pole where they stand on a platform the size of an A3 sheet of paper.  Participants use a safety harness and two safety lines to jump form the platform in an attempt to hit a bell suspended 1 metre higher and 2 metres out.  This activity is awesome fun and a great confidence builder.

RAFT BUILDING
Participants are first presented with a novelty scenario from which the need to build a raft arises.  The group is then broken into smaller teams and using the material provided is encouraged to construct a raft.  Participants are also provided with life jackets and paddles as part of the scenario involves using the newly constructed raft as a ferry to get each team member from point A to point B.

RIVER CHALLENGE
River challenge is and activity designed to challenge participants to develop problem-solving skills and to feel part of a team.  Imagine being stranded on a one side of a river and having to find a way to get your group across to the other side.  Participants design and build a raft from tarps, barrels and materials collected from their surroundings and then the challenge gets wet and fun as they attempt to cross the river.  Laughter and team development are the goals in this entertaining activity.

RIVER CHALLENGE - BRIDGE BUILDING
The bridge building activity is a problem solving process which is designed to promote team building skills in a fun environment.  Participants are given instructions and equipment to build the bridge and to get the whole group from one side to another side of a river or dam.  The construction process requires the group to delegate roles of responsibility to group members to ensure the bridge is built correctly.  Once the bridge has been constructed the strengths and weaknesses of the group need to be examined for the crossing to run successfully.

SEARCH AND RESCUE
This activity involves a mock simulation of a special services aircraft pilot, parachuting into unknown territory.  Participants use UHF radio contact with Search and Rescue Base to navigate into the search area.  They then organise themselves into rescue teams, locating lost items of equipment and eventually the pilot himself.  The teams then carry out basic first aid and evacuate the casualty to the extraction location!

SUB ARCTIC
This activity allows participants to closely examine the important elements of being in a team.  This activity allows the team to work in small groups while participating in a life like survival situation centred on a given scenario.  Using a video and example of 15 items, the activity looks at selecting items which can be used to aid the team’s chances of survival.  The decisions each group makes on how each item can be used and its importance, gives each team a rating.  The better each team works together the higher their rating and the better their chances are of survival.

SURVIVAL CHALLENGE
During this activity each team is faced with a number of obstacles that they have to complete in order to move on to the next.  It includes having to construct a stretcher from a tarp and materials collected, bandaging an “injured” participant, and then transporting the “patient” to a given destination.  Through the survival challenge activity, each group will gain a feeling of camaraderie by helping each other with encouragement, teamwork and idea sharing.

TOWER CLIMB
The group is divided into two smaller groups.  The aim is to construct a tower made out of milk crates.  The tower is constructed underneath the high ropes course which is used as a safety belay point.  Once each group has constructed their tower, one person from each group climbs the tower using a safety harness; the remaining group members use a donkey belay to keep the climber safe.

TEAM CHALLENGE
A series of activities where the solutions are so numerous there is no right or wrong answers.  The emphasis is on how each individual in the group contributed towards the solution.  There are a large number of activities that are great for developing all aspects of team function and personal growth.  All of these activities are guaranteed to get participants thinking about such issues as effective communication, self-confidence, and group dynamics.  Team members will be challenged mentally and physically in a supportive, positive environment whilst having a lot of serious fun along the way.

INDOOR ROCK CLIMBING
The indoor rock climbing wall is a simulated natural rock surface with a series of large and small artificial climbing holds.  There are nine climb lines ranging in height from eight to fifteen metres.  Encompassing sixty individual climbs, the wall has an allocated grade ranging from beginner to advanced (grade 8 to 25).  At the beginning of the session, safety, equipment and technique are discussed.  Goals are examined and encouraged throughout the session with the emphasis on team support and encouragement.  Indoor rock climbing empowers participants to experience and put into practice leadership, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills. The physical, mental, and emotional tasks they accomplish will help to create a positive self-image that will benefit participants throughout life.
